Stories about the Bible

THE SHOT THROUGH BIBLE
A soldier explains, "I was on the front. We crawled from trench to trench. Suddenly, I felt something hit hard against my chest, followed by a piercing pain. What had happened? As usual I carried my pocket Bible In my breast-pocket. If the enemy's bullet had not firstly shot through my Bible, then it definitely would have hit my heart. Now I only have a slight wound which will soon heal. By this I can see that it was the work of God. This shot-through Bible has saved my life twice: the first time as it showed me the way to Jesus, and the second time as it received the fatal bullet."

THE BAKED BIBLE

John Hus from Bohemia, who preached the gospel of Jesus to the people in his Czechoslovakian homeland In the 14th Century, was burned by the enemies of Jesus. Many Christians experienced the same treatment- And everywhere a search for Bibles took place with the intention to destroy them. A woman, whose greatest treasure was the Word of God, was standing directly before the oven because she wanted to bake some bread. She heard that men were searching through the village and that all those that possessed a Bible were being taken to prison.

She quickly decided to take her Bible and wrap it in a big lump of dough, which she then put into the oven. Then she also put the other loaves of bread Into the oven behind it. Soon after, her house was also investigated. Everything was searched through from top to bottom, but it was all in vain. Meanwhile, as the persecutors left the house, the bread was already finished and the Bible came out of the hot oven. And amazingly, there was no damage done to the Bible whatsoever; just like Shadrach, Meschach and Abed-Nego, who were thrown into the fiery oven by Nebuchadnezzar and came out unharmed (see Daniel 3). The descendants of this dear lady have kept this Bible as a precious inheritance. Source VeF.

How greatly do we appreciate the freedom of being able to own a Bible and being able to learn about the ways of God for ourselves, without being persecuted? rw

THE BIBLE
The Old Testament Is the story of a nation. The New Testament is the story of a man.
This nation was founded and preserved by God for the purpose of bringing a man into this world - JESUS. The great mystery - God came himself and took on human form, so that humanity would have a clear idea about who they must look to whenever they think about God. Jesus is God revealed in flesh. Divinity took on human form in order to serve mankind, leading up until the cross.

His appearance upon this earth is the centre-point of human history. The Old Testament forms the foundation and the New Testament describes it. There is no-one like HIM, Jesus. He, who has risen from the dead, is pouring out his spirit into the hearts of his people.

The Bible is your most precious treasure and your best companion while living on earth.
