1. ...that the doctrine of purgatory was firstly formulated by Gregory the Great around the year 593?
This doctrine is not to be found in the Holy Scriptures, it is an error of human thinking. The Bible only talks about one eternal place of fire, hell (See Matthew 18,6-9). Whoever finds himself there will never get out again (See Matthew 10:28; 23:33; 24:51; John 5,28-29).
2. ...that the inquisition of heretics or those that believe differently was stipulated in the council in Verona in the year 1184?
Jesus never taught the using of violence to spread the gospel! Jesus said to Peter: "... Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword" (See Matthew 26:52). Jesus teaches his people that they should love their enemies (See Matthew 5,43-48).
3. ... that the rosary or the prayer beads was introduced by Peter the Hermite in the year 1090. The Hindus and the Moslems adopted it.
This method of praying is not Christian but heathen and is condemned by Jesus Christ (See Matthew 6,5-13). A person has to decide for themselves whether they want to obey the Bible or follow human tradition.
Commentary: These type of teachings can only continue to exist when people depend more upon other things rather than upon the Word of God. God does not respect religious fanatics but rather HIS WORD. We must do what He says.
Every false doctrine has some kind of an appearance of being religious, and can deceive those who do not read the Word of God themselves. Such people become tools of a religion and are exploited. True Christian faith is based upon trust in God.
Jesus Christ died one time only and bore the sins of all mankind upon the cross. Whosoever wants to get rid of his sins must confess his sins to HIM alone and wash them away in the water-baptism in the name of Jesus (See Acts 2,38-39). The risen Lord - Jesus Christ - still sets people free today. Have you already been set free? (rw)
Paul says: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
(Galatians 5,1) Peter says: "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ. as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." (1. Peter 1,18-19) Jesus says: "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." (John 8,36)
It is the will of God that every Christian lives in this freedom! -
