Jesus answered and said to him: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3,5)

Many religions in the world promise their followers that they will get into "heaven" after this life, if they adhere to their instructions. Unfortunately, it is not that way. In order for a person to be sure that he really will go to heaven, Jesus says these words and points out the most important thing: "Except a man be..." i.e. there are no alternatives, no replacement for being born again out of water and spirit. You can turn his words around as much as you want, but if you want to be saved it is better to stick to that what Jesus has laid down. For heaven and earth will pass away, but his words will never perish. They are solid as a rock. Rebirth can not be obtained through philosophy or meditation, nor by isolating yourself from society, whether it be for good or bad reasons.

Being reborn occurs exactly as Jesus says in the third chapter of John: by water and spirit. At that time when Jesus explained this rebirth it was still a mystery as to how this would take place. Later Jesus Christ bare the sins of all mankind upon the cross, died and was buried, just like the prophets had predicted. Three days later, early in the morning, Jesus' grave was empty. The spirit of eternal life returned into the body and Jesus reappeared to his 11 disciples and to over 500 other disciples.

In the Book of Acts we see how the born again experience takes place. The water signifies the baptism by immersion in JESUS NAME. We are buried with Jesus by this baptism. It serves the purpose for the washing away of sins. This rebirth is not complete without the SPIRIT, Jesus says, water and spirit, not just water and not just the spirit, but both need to be there for this new creature created by God to come about! With "...and spirit...", Jesus says in reference to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Through the spirit of Jesus, people receive eternal life. 2 Corinth, 5:17; Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Have you been born again? (rw)

37th Psalm In the original, taken from the Hebrew Scriptures — the Tanakh.
Of David. Do not be vexed by evil men; do not be incensed by wrongdoers; for they soon wither like grass, like verdure fade away. Trust In the LORD and do good, abide in the land and remain loyal, Seek the favor of the LORD, and He will grant you the desires of your heart. Leave all to the LORD; trust in Him, He will do it.
