He never wrote a book, he never held a position, he never had
his own family, or owned a house. He did not go to university,
he never visited a great city, he never travelled further than
200 miles from his place of birth. He never did any of the things
which are usually associated with greatness.
He had no references other than himself. He had just reached
the age of 33 when the mass of public opinion turned against
him. His friends forsook him, he was handed over to his enemies,
and he had to bear the mockery of a public court proceedings.
He was nailed on a cross between two thieves. While he was dying,
his hangmen played to see who would get his clothing - the only
possession he had on this earth. When he was dead, he was placed
in a borrowed grave as a result of a friend having compassion
for him.
Twenty centuries have gone by since that time; and, today, he
is a central personality among people and a leader of human
progress.
All the armies who marched, all the naval armed forces who navigated
the sea, all the parliaments who had sessions, and all the kings
who ever reigned - all of them together were unable to influence
human life on earth like this one solitary life...
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life.
