Luke
17:32-33 Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to
save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his
life shall preserve it.
Serious words from Jesus here which were directed to everyone.
They were meant for those who were listening at that time,
for his disciples, and today, for you and me. Like a hot iron,
it should be branded into our minds. Remember Lot's wife.
Remember what is written, look what happened to her, and take
it all very seriously to heart! What happened at that time?
Both of the cities, Sodom and Gomorrah, were situated at that
time at the very place which is now the Dead Sea. At that
time, the whole valley was a fruitful plain, which was watered
from the river Jordan. Everything grew abundantly and was
richly green.
Lot lived with his wife and his daughters in this city. The
Scriptures tell us that the people in both these cities were
completely corrupt, and that their sin "stank all the
way up to heaven". God came down to see if this really
was the case. Now their hours were counted, judgement would
come.
The angels of God found only one righteous person with his
family in this place, and they compelled them to leave immediately.
"Flee to this mountain and do not look back!" Lot
with his wife and daughters fled from the city. Somewhere
along the way to the mountains, Lot's wife turned around and
looked back. She saw the fire and brimstone fall from the
heavens, and saw how the place was transformed, she herself
became a pillar of salt, there. How could someone be so foolish?
Saved, already out of the city, having a promise: "Go
to the mountain, nothing will happen to you all, just make
sure that nobody looks back!" What reason is there for
such foolishness? Why take the risk when God has warned us?
And yet there are so many people who do not care what the
Word of God says to them. This is now said to the foolish:
"God has warned you."
Today, the gospel of Jesus is the way out of the Sodom of
this world: Repentance to God, water baptism in the name of
Jesus for the remission of sins, and receiving of the Holy
Spirit (See Acts 2:38). Whoever lays his hand on the plough
and looks back is not suitable for the kingdom of God. This
person will fail on the way and lose his soul. There is only
one SINGLE opportunity to be saved and every individual must
grab a hold of it. God does not force anyone to follow Him.
Every individual has a free will to serve who he or she wants.
We serve the LORD! If you have any questions, we would like
to help you. Remember Lot's wife! rw
