Matthew 26:37-39
And He took with Him Peter and the two
sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful,
even to death. Stay here and watch with Me." He went a
little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O
My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless,
not as I will, but as You will."
Jesus
Himself has prepared the way for each one of us, so that we
can also overcome the most difficult situations. We only know
a little about what it cost Him to make this way possible. In
all our biblical knowledge it would be shameful not to know
Jesus! For HE is risen and is alive! As long as we look to HIM,
we also see the way which we must go.
Late in the evening they are now in the garden, Jesus and His
11 disciples. The disciples also fall asleep. He is now alone.
The world is behind Him, the mockery, the lashes from the whip
and the cross lies before Him. HE knows exactly that it depends
on Him alone that all mankind may be saved. - He goes a little
bit further and prays. It was a burden which He could hardly
bear. Who can really understand His need? He begins to shake
and shiver and He prays even more intensely.
For Him there is only one place where He can be strengthened,
and there is only one place where we can be strengthened. Not
in the world, only in the presence of God. Being in the garden
was now the most important thing:
• Whatever your situation is, follow the way which leads
you to Him in the garden.
• Here in this garden, the "I" must die and
all desire for the world with its sinful pleasures. Here the
decision is made - who I will follow, here in the garden the
power is hidden, the necessary anointing which keeps, protects,
and maintains.
• Whatever comes against you - pray, hang in there, and
go a little further. What have you hoped and prayed for, trusted
and believed? Keep holding on and go a little further.
• Jesus has prepared the way, He has fought your greatest
battle and has won the victory. No matter what keeps trying
to hinder you from continuing on the way, do not remain standing
still, do not give up, but rather go a little further.
• There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Whoever believes
in Him shall not be ashamed, for whoever sets his hope upon
the Lord will be rewarded.
• There are many situations in which you think, oh, if
only everything was over with.
• Nevertheless, when we desire and pray that God's will
be done, light will shine forth and the situations will change.
• Do not stand still in your time of need - just go a
little further!
• Jesus knows what fear is, He knows what sorrow and pain
are. Psalm 50:15
"And call upon me in the day of trouble:
I -will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. "
