Jesus Christ - the
light of the world |
The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it
not. John 1:5
John writes about Jesus Christ who is the Light of the World (John
8:12). This divine light shone for a short while for this world and
mankind, which had fallen into deep spiritual darkness through Adam’s
sin; and it is still that way today.
It began to shine to show people the way out of darkness. It is shining
to everyone, which means that it is a light of hope for every single
person. Jesus said, “Believe in the light so long as I am
with you” (John 12:35). They did not understand Him. Darkness
and light do not have anything in common. Through light everything is
revealed, however, darkness is unable to reveal anything. The Word of
God reveals evil, sin and the unrighteousness of this world. Darkness
does not want to have anything to do with this. It fights against the
light.
The world is still surrounded by this spiritual darkness today which
is holding the human race captive in sin; it is ruling over them by
the power of evil. Jesus came, taught truth, and confirmed through many
signs and wonders that HE is the Son of God.
HE demonstrated His power and authority through countless miracles,
with the intention that they would recognize HIM and believe in HIM;
and that the people would know that WITHOUT HIM, they would continue
to be held in captivity, without any hope of eternal life.
People who love the light, follow His Word and believe His teachings,
and, as a result, He is able to help them and set them free from sin.
HE came into the world which is in spiritual darkness, in order to teach
the ignorant of this evil world; however, most of them loved unrighteousness
– just like they do in our present day - therefore, they stayed
blind and did not know who HE really was.
... and the darkness comprehended it not: They did not understand Him,
they could not understand the WORD, nor take a hold of it, nor stop
it - they could not stop or get rid of HIM. The powers of this world
failed to take control over God’s Word. They do not have any power
over HIM, they never had power over Jesus Christ! Jesus does not make
any compromises. Darkness has no connection with light whatsoever, and
even nowadays, it is the same case. Jesus came into the world to bear
the sins of humanity, therefore He allowed them to crucify Him. That
was His plan. The righteous one died for the unrighteous. He took our
place. Our punishment was upon Him, so that all that follow HIM and
His WORD through obedience to the gospel, receive liberty and life.
Follow Him and obey His WORD! (see John 3:5 and Acts 2:38). rw
