They took their city as if they were one
man!
Act 3:1-8 Now Peter and John went up together
to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a certain
man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily
at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms
from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John
about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes
on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." So he gave
them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.
Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what
I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
rise up and walk." And he took him by the right hand and
lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received
strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the
temple with them; walking, leaping, and praising God.
The disciples of Jesus had received the order and full power from
Jesus Christ to proclaim the whole gospel to everyone. They were
supposed to begin in Jerusalem and work with all their might to
reach the whole of Jerusalem with the good news. They were a light
in the spiritual darkness. Shortly after the Holy Spirit was poured
out and they were filled with power from above, John and Peter
went to the temple. There they see a lame men sitting at the gate
who is begging.
He is hanging his head down and when Peter approaches him, he
says to the lame man, "Look at us!" There is something
about these words. Here is someone who wants to give me something.
Peter makes it clear to him, " We don't have any silver nor
gold, but we've got something that is much better." What
could be better for me than silver or gold?
Of course, healing. He did not think about that until he hears
Peter say to him, "In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth
arise and walk!" In that same moment he is healed! He gets
up, runs around and jumps up and down, full of enthusiasm in the
temple. He can hardly believe what had happened to him. There
was no therapy, no hypnosis, meditation or psychology - no, it
was faith in the name of JESUS which healed him.
The religions of the world are like the lame cripple, they beg
and earn their means thereby. However, they are like the sick
man. He has no hope until he meets Peter. Many have had enough
of the church and religion; it is understandable, what they really
need is healing and, that which is even more important, salvation.
They can have these things! Look upon us, we have been set free
from the power which is ruling this world. It was by His name!
Jesus is able to set you free, for He has risen from the dead.
We will tell you how. Then you will be glad like the lame man
was and will know how to please God. We are looking forward to
seeing you when you come. Until then, goodbye and may God bless
you. rw
