II C 7 14
About a thousand years ago, Before Christ, Solomon was ordained to be king over the Jewish people. His father, king David, had prepared the way for him for this very purpose; and God had confirmed it about Solomon having been chosen as king over Israel. All the people were gathered in Jerusalem to be present for the ordination of the king.

When Solomon became king, God appeared to him at night and spoke to him, “Ask what you want me to give to you.” Solomon replied, “Lord, give me wisdom so that I can rule your people in the right way.” (2. Chronicles 1) What a request! If only it would be that way with all those who want to rule and reign over people! God fulfilled his desire. Solomon became well-known as being the wisest person, even far beyond the borders of Israel. In addition, God blessed him with riches and honor.

At the dedication of the temple, the glory of God filled the temple. Solomon stood before the temple, lifted his hands up and prayed to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - the God who created heaven and earth by His Word.

God, the One who knows the future, answered Solomon’s prayer, appearing to him again in the night and saying the following, (2. Chronicles 7:14), “If my people, which are called, by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

That is the formula! When God closes the heaven to His people, when the blessing has not yet been poured out, when there are plagues from all sides, and then His people humble themselves, that they pray and seek His face, it is then that He will hear them, forgive their sins and heal their land. God sees when a person is doing something, about wanting to be changed; they are our signs to God, with big letters written above them proclaiming: Lord, I really mean it. He wants us to stop doing evil, both in word and in deed; and also during the times when there are voices around us mocking and blaspheming.

This promise is not only for His people Israel, but rather, it is also for us - His congregation, His church, over whom His name has been called. What are you waiting for? Each one of us has been told what has to be done! Do you want your land to be healed? rw
