Call upon Him and take hold of His hand!
Matthew 14:29-33 So He said, "Come." And when
Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water
to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous,
he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord,
save me!" And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand
and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith,
why did you doubt?" And when they got into the boat, the
wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped
Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
The storm in which the disciples found themselves in was not
something to laugh about, for they were sitting in a normal
fishing boat. Jesus gave them a destination: "Cross over
to the other side".
This command of Jesus is also for us in our life: "Go over
to the other side". For the disciples, the other side was
the bank. For us today, it is His kingdom, His world where He
is Lord.
His Word gives us the exact direction how we can reach the other
side. Suddenly, there came a mighty storm; their ship in which
they were sitting in, rocked to and fro. A great amount of water
got into the boat. They thought it was over for them, "We're
sinking".
Is it not like that often in life, that everything is peaceful
and quiet, we are not worrying about anything and then suddenly,
a storm comes along in the form of bad news, or something or
other that we go have to through, such as sickness, and we are
there in the center of it all? The storm remains, we are tossed
back and forth, and we are holding on tightly to the hope that
we will survive. Our life is falling apart in a matter of seconds
and we ask ourselves, "What's going to happen to me in
the end?"
They had lost their orientation and they see Jesus on the sea.
"Lord, if it is you, then call me to come to you",
Peter calls out to Him. "Come!" was Jesus' reply.
Jesus is ready at all times to reward our faith. Peter walks
on the water, heading towards the Lord, he sees the high waves,
fear overcomes him, he doubts and starts sinking. In panic,
he cries out to Jesus, "Lord, save me". Immediately,
Jesus reaches out His hand, it is taken a hold of and He pulls
him up. Both of them walk hand in hand on the water back to
the boat. Only then in that moment does the storm calm down.
Call upon JESUS when you are in need. Mean it sincerely from
your heart like Peter did and take a hold of His hand. He will
lead you into the boat -His church - only then will the storm
be still. rw
